- A writer?s interpretation of the world strictly influences his literary performance. T.S. Eliot literary style was exceedingly melancholy because the era that he was living in was filled with anguish and depression. His works of literature vary from his use of traditional dramatic structure to mythical method.
- As one of America’s first modernist poets, T. S. Eliot’s unique style and subject matter would have a dramatic influence on writers for the century to come. Born in 1888 in St. Louis Mo. at the tail end of the “Cowboy era” he grew up in the more civilized industrial era of the early 20th century, a time of the Wright Brothers and Henry Ford.
- After first reading Eliot’s “Tradition and the Individual Talent” it appeared to be very outdated. But now I realize I just didn’t fully understand it. There are many of her points I do not agree with. I agree that to know where you are going, you have to know where you have been, but I think you lose yourself in the quest for figuring out who you are.
- Thomas Stearns Eliot was born on September 26, 1888, in St.Louis Missouri, to Henry Ware and Charlotte Stearns Elliot. His father was a businessman, and his mother was a poetress. Eliot came from a financially endowed family and was allowed to attend all of the best schools.
- Their respective essays Tradition And The Individual Talent and Modern Fiction serve only to underline the tremendous difference in the views of Eliot and Woolf with regard to literary tradition and the role of the artist. Through vivid imagery and compelling metaphors, the poem conveys to the reader the thoughts and emotions of the author. Modern poets, however, manipulated traditional forms of poetry and sought to greatly influence the ideas of their readers.
- Today, few of us take Blake’s madness seriously, either because we don’t believe in it or because it no longer matters. Blake’s fundamental concepts speak mainly about the human condition and emotion; and within the realms of this paper, I would like to persuade my readers that William Blake uses simple language and metaphors to show the two contrary states of the human soul – innocence and experience.
- Physics + Dirac = poetryWho was the 20th century’s greatest English-speaking poet? TS Eliot, WB Yeats, Sylvia Plath? Not for me; my nomination is the theoretician Paul Dirac, honorary poet laureate of modern physics. It is a status he richly deserves because of his amazing ability to write down fundamental equations – the poems of science.
- A cat above the restRecent comic albums have tended to fall into two camps. There’s the ‘arty’, difficult kind, as typified by Chris Ware’s Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth, winner of a Guardian book award; and then there’s the mass-market variety – by the time you read this you’ll probably be wishing Spider-Man would go spin somewhere else.
- Arthur Miller, winner of many literary and dramatic awards, is an incredibly influential force in American drama. His plays deal with issues common to every society. He makes the audience face fault, weakness, and ignorance; subjects we would typical
- When the first edition of Principles of Language Learning and Teaching appeared in 1980, the field of second language acquisition (SLA) was relatively manageable. We had a handful of professional journals devoted to SLA, a good collection of anthologies and conference proceedings, and a small but respectable number of books on SLA and teaching.
