- The civil strife and chaos that had torn Russia limb from limb in the early 20th Century, although brutally devastating, did not hail the end of the stability and power that had characterized the massive country for so much of history. The continuing strength of what was now the Soviet Union lay in the newly formed support structure provided by Socialist Realism, a force that directed the awareness of, and the arts produced by, the Soviet people.

- To start with, the novel Frankenstein is a symmetrically built frame narrative with a story at its center. This is not always the case with frame structured novels, as there are examples without a proper center (e.g. Heart of Darkness). The elaborate system of frames indicates that this center reveals some kind of a mystery.
- The mystery has been popular for just about as long as films have had an audience. Almost as soon as filmmakers could do more than show loosely connected action, there was an interest in presenting puzzles, usually involving crime of some sort. The earliest filmings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories date from the first decade of the twentieth century, and the audience for such stories was already well in place.

- The Nation of Gods and Earths. There are even thousands more who are not members but whose lives have been affected in some positive way from learning the knowledge of themselves at an early age. Why isn’t the man who is responsible for awakening so many black youth known to the masses of our people? Why has this man never been honored? Perhaps it’s because his full greatness won’t be realized until the world beholds the greatness of the masses of black youth whose lives he touched.

- The Crying of Lot 49 offers two journeys into the text: that of it’s protagonist Oedipa, and that which the reader is forced to take with her. His brilliant use of detail and word plays blur the lines between the two. The main factor in this journey is chaos, here referred to by it’s more scientific name entropy.
- The short story I have chosen to read by Washington Irving is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This story takes place in a little village on the Hudson River which by some is called Greensburgh, but which is more generally known as Tarry Town. The main character in the story, Ichabod Crane, who tarried in Sleepy Hollow came about for the purpose of instructing the children of the vicinity.
