- Many people believe that the main reason that Hamlet takes so long to kill Claudius is that he is constantly contemplating his morals. Samuel Taylor Coleridge would have you believe that the reason for the inaction is caused by endless reasoning and hesitating- constant urging and solicitation of the mind to act, and constant escape from action.
- Hamlet is based on a young prince of Denmark that must uncover the truth about his fathers death. Hamlet a play that tells the story of a young prince who’s father recently died. Hamlets uncle Claudius marries his mother the queen and takes the throne.
- It is full of corruption, deceit, passion, ruthlessness, and ambition that Hamlet is not used to (Lidz, 71). His mind temporarily can not handle his situation because, as I will mention later, his mother is at the center of it.
- Act I, Scene I – It is midnight and bitter cold. - 1.Hamlet begins with guards whose main importance in the play is to give credibility to the ghost. If Hamlet were to see his father?s ghost in private, the argument for his madness would greatly improve. Yet, not one, but three men together witness the ghost before even thinking to notify Hamlet.

He gains the loyalty and devotion of his men and defends good from evil. He was portrayed as being almost invincible, having the strength of three men and successful in battle.
- True redemption of sin comes from suffering. When a person goes against what they judge as wrong, the only way to be freed of the guilt that their actions have caused is to feel the pain emotionally from the guilt of their sin. The guilt they feel on the inside and the shame they have to face others is their atonement.
- Method in the Madness: Hamlet?s Sanity Supported Through His Relation to Ophelia and Edgar?s Relation to LearIn both Hamlet and King Lear, Shakespeare incorporates a theme of madness with two characters: one truly mad, and one only acting mad to serve a motive.
- Hamlet is probably the best known and most popular play of William Shakespeare, and it is natural for any person to question what makes Hamlet a great tragedy and why it receives such praises. The answer is in fact simple; it effectively arouses pity and fear in the audiences’ mind.
- The conduct of Hamlet causes him to become the exact definition of melancholy, as defined by the medical field over the years.
- Shakespeare s work often contains a variety of contexts and we will definitely find that these contexts are associated with the values present in Hamlet. The different contexts includes personal, social, cultural, political and spiritual. To understand these values we need to be constantly challenging ourselves with bright ideas about these concepts in Hamlet.
- This seems to constitute the central part in Hamlet. Critics seem to cling to this detail, as if trying to save the status of Hamlet as a typical Elizabethan tragedy of revenge. According to Aristotle, " the definition of tragedy, there should exist a flaw in the character of the main hero, who is a great personality that is engaged in a struggle that ends catastrophically".
- Polonius is murdered by Hamlet when Polonius his discovered listening to Hamlet, and his mother’s Queen Gertrude conversation . Hamlet unknowing of who the person behind the tapestry is, kills Polonius from where he was spying. When news of his fathers death reaches Polonius’s son Laertes, he comes back with an entourage to seek revenge for his fathers death.
- In having to enter and act in the world of his uncle, Hamlet himself becomes an unwilling creature of that world. When he chooses to obey the ghost’s command and revenge his father, Hamlet accepts the inevitability that he must become part of Denmark’s “unweeded garden”.
- Hamlet is one of Shakespeare s most analyzed plays. The Danish prince is developed into a mysterious and fascinating man. A philosopher and a fencer, he is a man disgusted with the rottenness of life around him and is obligated to set things right. Under the guise of madness he attempts to achieve his ends; yet there is much to puzzle over.
- In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Hamlet is faced with emotional and physical hardship. The suffering that he endures causes his character to develop certain idiosyncrasies. Morality has a significant importance to Hamlet. At the beginning of the play, Hamlet possesses a strong sense of morality.
- Prince Hamlet bitterly opposed the marriage of his mother, Gertrude, to Claudius, her own brother-in-law, so soon after her husband’s death. Moreover, Hamlet had a strange suspicion that the new king – his stepfather and former uncle – had somehow plotted his father’s mysterious demise, and he refused to cease mourning his natural father, now two months dead.
- Who s there, asks Bernardo. Shakespeare, in the first two words of probably his most famous play, already makes the audience feel uncertain about the events that shall later unfold. In Hamlet, Shakespeare seems to pit reason against faith, using the Ghost, supposedly King Hamlet s spirit, as a tool to master this.
