- “Can They Say That On Television?” Yes, they can, and increasingly they do. The days of television being highly regulated, pure and decent may be over. It looks as if the ever-shifting rules governing what’s okay to say on television are made to be broken.
- In a world in which acts of heinous violence, murder or crude and shocking behavior seem to be a normal occurrence, it may lead one to wonder what has put society onto this slippery slope. How did this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals.
- CensorshipCensorship is the control of communication between people. This includes restrictions on what can be seen and heard. Mostly, censorship is practiced by Governments. But religious and political leaders and special interest groups also try to control the flow of information.
- The government is correct in trying to censor what is seen on television Censorship does not violate the first amendment and it prevents the harmful effects of graphic television Many people are in favor of censorship and it may be accomplished without violating the rights of broadcasters or any other individuals Censorship “refers to suppression of information, ideas, or artistic expression by anyone, whether government officials, church authorities, private pressure groups, or speakers, writers, and artists themselves” (Grolier, Inc ) Censorship can be a bad thing, and can also be positive F
- Censorship is not always protected by the first amendment. Obscenity is just one of the action not protected by the first amendment. There are limitations on the right of free speech. ?The word ?censorship? means prior restraint of First Amendment rights by government.
- Censorship “The song [Cop Killer] is fiction, not fact. At no point did I go out and say Let’s do it.’ I am singing in the first person as a character who is fed up with police brutality. I ain’t never killed no cop. I felt like it a lot of times. But I never did” -Rapper Ice-T, National Review, July 20, 1992.
- However or whenever these attacks occur, they usually fall at least one of the following categories: Religion War & Peace (Violence) Sociology & Race Language Drugs Sex Inappropriate Adolescent Behaviour What is Obscenity? Clearly something hard to talk about constructively.
- Before you can form an opinion on this, you must hear both sides of the argument on this much-debated topic. Some people believe that music should be censored so all audiences can hear it without it containing any controversial lyrics. Others believe it should not be censored and musical artists should be able to speak, sing, rap, or rhyme freely without anyone censoring them.
- Censorship affects our society in many different ways, it affects the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the books we read, and many other aspects of our everyday lives. Even though many might argue that censorship doesn t really have a place in a society that emphases freedom of speech and the freedom to express oneself, but censorship is an essential and needed part of our growing society, it s needed in the television industry, the Internet, and the music industry.
- Another example of books distorting reality is drugs. Sometimes books can show people partying and having a good time while getting high on drugs. But usually books don’t show the troubles people face with an addiction. The same is with alcohol. It is rare to see a book that shows the depression alcoholics go through while trying to quit.
- Does this mean that the government owns the Internet, or is it no longer a tool limited by the powers that govern.
- Censorship in America today has gotten way out of hand. There always seems to be some holier than thou group speaking out as if they were representing the majority of Americans. These groups want to censor just about anything and everything we do. When it comes to watching television, reading a book or magazine, listening to music, or buying products, people should be able to make these decisions for themselves.
- However or whenever these attacks occur, they usually fall at least in one of these categories. Language Sex Drugs Society and Race Inappropriate Adolescent Behavior What is Obscenity? Clearly something hard to discuss.
- I have yet to encounter a valid argument for any form of censorship. Such arguments as are presented invariably take the form of concern for the well being of others , children frequently being the alleged victims quoted . The arguments are specious and shallow and constitute nothing more than the imposition of one groups morality on another.
- Since the being of time people have been making and listening to music. Music has been considered the best way to express ourselves. The Bible even talks about how music was used to praise God. Music has been used for all type of things ranging from to getting a girl to notice guy, trying to get over a broken heart, or maybe losing a love one.
- A court ruling granted the highest level of First Amendment protection to the Internet when the Communications Decency Act was struck down in Reno vs. ACLU in June 1997. While this is a step in protection against censorship, there are a number of state bills put forth to censor the internet against minors and others.
- In the First Amendment to the Constitution, amongst other things it guarantees freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of association (assembly). However, everywhere you turn today there is some group trying to take some god given right away from us.
- I did my report on the First Amendment. The First Amendment of the United States states that, “Congress shall make no law against the freedom of speech, nor of the press.” However, the list of banned books in public schools and libraries is astonishing.
- Censorship is the act of supirvising and controlling the information and ideas circulated within a society.( ) Although certain precautions are taken place, are viewers still subjected to the offensive material and immoral thoughts being displayed on local radio stations? ?Bleeping? a line out of a sentence or a song is used so that the nation can feel secure and free of obscene thoughts.
- Mine be it to have contributed to the enlightenment and the joys of the mind, to the things of the spirit, to all that tends to bring into the lives of the toilers of Pittsburgh sweetness and light.
