- Question at Issue Affirmative action was implemented with the idea and hope that America would finally become truly equal. The tension of the 1960’s civil rights movement had made it very clear, that the nation’s minority and female population were not receiving equal social and economic opportunity.
- One of the key responsibilities of a human resource management professional is the management of diversity and equal employment opportunities within the organisation. Equal employment opportunity refers to the situation in which every individual has access to employment and its benefits.

- Affirmative action, by definition, is a program designed to favor minorities and remedy past discrimination (Cummings, p.192). It started in 1961 with President John F. Kennedy, by instructing the federal contractors to take affirmative action to ensure that all people are treated equally regardless of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
- Affirmative action is a growing argument among our society. It is multifaceted and very often defined vaguely. Some can define affirmative action as the ability to strive for equality and inclusiveness. Others might see it as a quota-based system for different minority groups.
- The history of affirmative action has its roots in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act provided the initial legal basis for affirmative action for women in the workplace. Affirmative action is a policy to encourage equal opportunity and to level the playing field for groups of people who have been and are discriminated against.
- Affirmative Action efforts were started in 1964 to end the long history of overlooking qualified people of color and women from higher education. - Affirmative action has been the subject of increasing debate and tension in our society. Affirmative action has divided political parties, communities and campuses across the nation. The basis behind affirmative action is that because of past discrimination and oppression, such as the unequal treatment of women, and the enslavement of African Americans, minorities and women have difficulty competing with their white male counterparts.
- In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson used the term affirmative action to inform federal contractors to treat job-applicants and employees without regards to their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin (Lyndon B. Johnson). In the preceding year the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed simply to make laws color-blind .

- When people talk about the civil rights movement, the first thing that comes to mind is the famous speech ?I have a dream? by Martin Luther King. His dream in short was to have equality among human beings. For the past thirty years, this country has been revolutionizing humanitarianism because there is greater concern for human welfare than one hundred years ago.
- The simplicity to form two morals that are both correct but conflicting is the reason for the division of our nation on Affirmative Action. Affirmative Action is very noble when looking at who benefits from the outcome. Let us take a closer look at Affirmative Action.
- The topic of affirmative action is a very sensitive and volatile subject ?Affirmative action is a time bomb primed to detonate in the middle of the American political marketplace?, wrote Steven Roberts (page 1 art 47) The increasingly hostile and divisive debate about the role of gender and race is becoming serious part of modern America It appears that the issue of affirmative action can no longer be over looked The author, Roberts, puts worth a reason for the growing assault on affirmative action ?The assault on affirmative action is gathering strength from a slow-growth economy, stagnant mi
- ?Affirmative action should be eliminated? (Sadler 70). Affirmative action does not solve discrimination problems; on the contrary, it harms those the program is meant help. The program divides society into two groups based on ethnicity; this completely defies the effort to have a color-blind America (where society does not see ethnicity or a color difference in any person).
- Once upon a time, there were two people who went to an interview for only one job position at the same company. The first person attended a prestigious and highly academic university, had years of work experience in the field and, in the mind of the employer, had the potential to make a positive impact on the company?s performance.
- Affirmative Correction Equality is a word synonymous with the civil rights movement. A word used to promote, and to establish fairness in the lives of African-Americans.
