- Picture a cancer, eating a human, a sister, a brother, away bit by bit. Destroying every organ, slowing every heart beat, weakening every muscle. Then finally, shutting the body down. Ending it?s existence. Acid deposition is the earth?s cancer. Every rain drop causing massive destruction throughout the world.
- Acid RainScientists from around the globe have come to a conclusion, on the basis of environmental evidence, that acid rain is now a serious problem in the industrialized regions of the world. Acid rain impacts on lakes and vegetation. Many lakes are extremely sensitive to acid rain because they are unable to neutralize it.
- Acid rain forms high in the clouds in a gaseous form. Theses gasses stay in the atmosphere until they come in contact with rain that dissolves the gasses. A mild solution of sulfuric and nitric acid is formed. These drops fall to the earth and get into our water table beneath the surface.
- This allows acid rain to distribute itself further away from it’s source causing more than local problems. Sulfur Dioxide (SO ) is released by fossil fuels when they undergo combustion.
- In recent years, a great amount of attention has been focused on environmental issues. Nightly we are informed of yet another creature in danger of extinction. Still, despite this increased awareness, the problem remains. One facet of this overwhelming dilemma is the problem of acid rain.
- Acid rain is rain that is more acidic than normal. Acid rain is a complicated problem. Caused by air pollution, acid rain’s spread and damage involves weather, chemistry, soil, and the life cycles of plants and animals on the land and from acid rain in the water.

- My first question is , ?What is Acid Rain?? You hear about it all the time in the news and it is very important to the earth?s ecosystem. In simple terms, acid rain is rain that is more acidic than normal. All objects in nature have a certain level of acicicity but acid rain has too much acid in it.
- A bicarbonate atom is an ion formed by one hydrogen atom, one carbon at atom, and three oxygen atoms, and is very effective in natural waters at neutralizing hydrogen ions and reducing acidity. The dissociation results in the natural acidity of pure rain, which is moderately acidic at a pH of 5.
- Roads, highways, and bridges are a source of significant contributions of pollutants to our nation’s waters. Contaminants from vehicles and activities related to road and highway construction and maintenance are washed from roads and roadsides when it rains or snow melts.
- The recent (1992-date) record rise in the level of the Devils Lake, North Dakota, has led to a number of questions as to the nature of regional and global climate variability, and the utility of existing methods for forecasting lake levels and assessing the associated flood risk.
- But industry cause major environmental problems to the ocean. There are safe practices to using pesticides that would reduce if not eliminate the problem. Also the proper treatment of the sewage and industrial wastes would reduce the amount of toxins released into the ocean.

- Many people assume that water is an unlimited natural resource. Is this true? Although water appears abundant, recent circumstances indicate that it is seriously vulnerable to pollution and depletion.
