Rime Of The Ancient Mariner 2 Essay, Research Paper

In the year of 1772, a blessing to the genre on literature was born into the world. His name was Samuel Taylor Coleridge. His warks include such pieces as Kubla Khan: Or, a Vision in a Dream and Christabel. Another creationof his, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, when placed in the correct5 light, appears to follow the life of a Christian convert.

The ship was cheered, the harbour cleared,

Merrily did we drop

Below the kirk, below the hill

Below the lighthouse top

The Sun came up upon the left

Out of the sea came he!

And he shone bright, and on the right

Went down into the sea

And thus, the tale begins. The mariner starts his journey with a light heart full of joy and promise; ready to conquer the world. Quite similar to the man who has net yet heard the good news about salvation. Heedless of the destination of his immortal soul, he charges off into the unknown.

However, chargin off without being prepared, usually brings trouble.

And now the STORM-BLAST came, and he

Was tyrannous and strong;

He struck with his o’ertaking wings,

And chased us south along.

With sloping masts and dipping prow,

As who pursued with yell and blow

Still treads the shadow of his foe,

And forward bends his head,

The ship drove fast, loud roared the blast,

And southward aye we fled.

And now there came both mist and snow,

And it grew wondrous cold;

And ice, mast high, came floating by,

As green as emerald.

Without the warmth of God it grows cold, and without his guiding hand, all is confusion. For those in his fold, God will guide them to the right path.

“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.” Exodus 13:21

In the poem, a white albatross appears and leads the ship out of the iceberg-infested waters. Showing no compassion, the mariner takes out his crossbow and kills the albatross. This was looked down upon by his fellow seamen. He sinned. And he and his crew were punished for it. The crew placed the dead bird around his neck, and later, the drew died. He floated alone for many nights without sleep or water; without any comforts. However, he was forgiven, and his burden, the dead albatross, fell into the sea. Blessed with grace by a saint above, he finally make his way home, and now tells his story to anyone who will listen, until the day he dies.

Not all the different. Before someone is saved, they have sinned and carry their own heavy load. But when they ask for salvation, they are forgiven and their loads are taken away. They will always find their way home because He leads them there. And they are told in the Bible to tell their stories to anyone who will listen for the glory of the Kingdom.
